During the summer 2006, the Italian championship barely over, Thabo Sefolosha went in the USA to attend to the famous workouts. These training sessions are scheduled for the young players who are picked up for the NBA Draft and are evaluated and rated from the NBA team’s staff who pretend to select the player.
It’s the first trip for Thabo in the USA and considering some observations by the specialists, he’s sensed to be in the beginning of the 2nd round. Then, he did 8 workouts in 11 days during the month of June and a last workout 3 days before the NBA Draft, where he showed that he really improved his outside shot.
During the draft day, Thabo told to his relatives to come in New York and be united for this event as they always were in the family. After many years in foreign countries, they appreciated a lot to be together for this important event in the life of Thabo.
June 28th, 2006 in New York, it’s again a surprise when David Stern, the president of the prestigious NBA league, 
announced during the ceremony that Thabo Sefolosha was picked up in the 13th position in the first round of the NBA Draft by Philadelphia 76ers. It’s a big surprise and an enormous joy to see his dream – that everybody had – coming true... “It’s just unbelievable...” says Thabo with a large smile, a player not like the others who tagged an important event in the Swiss basketball history.
At least but not last, with a large smile after his nomination in the NBA, he was traded against Rodney Carney and 1 million dollars to the Chicago Bulls. The club where Michael Jordan was born, the biggest player in the world who illuminated the 90’s while many young players like Thabo and Kgomotso discovered the basketball. This franchise wants him! More than a symbol, it’s a dream become true for him.
Despite this wondeful career, the road is still long for Thabo to become one day, the good player he wish to be into the souvenirs of NBA spectators. He knows that his first season will be mainly an adaptation to a new way of life and living basketball.
Thabo can count on Bertille who moved on in the USA with him and his brother who will continue his study in the USA next year. He can also look up to an entire country which is behind him. And above all he can count on his fantastic personality that likes challenges; his seriousness, his continuous work and an endless love for basketball.
